輪廻転生

今から7〜8年程前の盛夏の頃、鎌倉のとある海岸で拾ったこの流木。砂浜の中程くらいの場所に転がり体の半分は砂に埋もれていた。真夏の太陽の陽射しに焼かれた木肌は白く乾いており、拾い上げると隅々に入り込んだ砂ははらはらと舞った。手に取り暫しその異形の姿を見つめる。何よりも印象的な2本の角の様な形状、そしてその曲がりの具合の程が余りにも美しく思え、普段より別段流木などの収集癖などは微塵にも無いのだが、その白くて乾いた物体は極々自然な流れの中で帰りの車内に転がる事となった。

表現としての有機と無機の融合。これはそもそもの “UNDULATION” の根本的な成り立ちに関わる実に大きなテーマであるのだが、そのイメージの中心となっていたのは、紛れもなく長きに渡り私の傍に常にあったこの流木の存在である。自然の中で生まれ、永き時間を生き抜き、その後、数々の試練を乗り越えた事により変化したその唯一無二の姿は余りにも孤高でもあり、また崇光でもある。

[ 輪廻転生 : Reincarnation ] : 命の活動を終え遺物となった有機物達に対し慈しみの心を持って向き合い、私の中で感じる所の必然性を伴った作品をこれからも創らせて頂こうと思っている。神に対峙し、深く祈りを捧げる如くの心境にて。

A fusion of the organic and the inorganic – a core theme of UNDULATION.

It was in the peak of summer, some 7 or 8 years ago, when I found this piece of driftwood on a beach in Kamakura. It lay somewhere near the center of the sand, half-buried and bleached under the intense summer sun. The wood’s surface was dry and pale, and as I picked it up, fine grains of sand spilled softly from its crevices.

I held it in my hands and stared at its unusual form. What struck me most were the two horn-like projections, and the exquisite way in which they curved—so beautifully, so naturally. I have never had any particular habit of collecting driftwood, and yet, with a sense of inevitability, this pale, weathered object found itself resting quietly in the backseat of my car that day.

The fusion of the organic and the inorganic has always been at the heart of UNDULATION. And this piece of driftwood—always close to me over the years—has silently embodied that vision. Born of nature, shaped by time and trial, it exists now as something solitary and sacred. A form that speaks not only of survival, but of transformation.

輪廻転生 – Reincarnation

To face the remnants of life—these discarded fragments of once-living things—with a spirit of reverence and tenderness. That is my wish. To create works imbued with what I feel to be an inevitable connection between their past and my present. In doing so, I stand before them as one would before a god—offering silent prayer.
