1964年、東京生まれ。看護師、トラック運転手を経て、1998年にハーレーダビッドソン専門のカスタムショップ「BAD LAND」を設立。ヨーロッパ発の独創的なカスタム思想を日本に持ち込み、最高品質のユーロパーツと妥協なき職人仕事により、日本のカスタムシーンに新たな価値観を提示してきた。
また、オリジナルの特殊塗料や表面処理材の開発・商品化にも積極的に取り組み、ユーロカスタムの浸透に寄与するとともに、ハーレーカスタムビルドの世界に新たな表現手法を確立している。
工業製品であるモーターサイクルの枠を離れ、2023年にアートブランド《UNDULATION》を設立。作家名として新たに「クワイ華」を名乗り、これまで培ってきた造形力と技術哲学をアートへと昇華させ、自らの内面と向き合う創作活動に取り組んでいる。
作家名の「華(はな)」は、今は亡き愛猫の名に由来し、最後までまっすぐに力強く生き抜いたその存在への敬意が込められている。現在は6匹の猫と暮らしながら制作を続けている。
2024年12月にはフィリップスのオークションにて作品が高額落札されるなど、国内外で高い評価を獲得。公募展での受賞や展示会を重ね、アートシーンにおいても存在感を高めている。

Born in Tokyo in 1964, Kuwai Hana began his career after working as a nurse and later as a truck driver. In 1998, he founded BAD LAND, a custom shop specializing in Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Introducing innovative European custom concepts to Japan, he has redefined the domestic custom scene through the use of the highest-quality Euro parts and uncompromising craftsmanship, establishing a distinctive and essential design philosophy.
He has also been deeply involved in the development and commercialization of original specialty paints and surface treatment materials, contributing to the spread of Euro custom culture while pioneering new modes of expression within the world of Harley custom builds.
In 2023, seeking to move beyond the constraints of motorcycles as industrial products, he established the art brand UNDULATION. Adopting the artist name “Kuwai Hana,” he channels the sculptural sensibility and technical philosophy he has cultivated into the realm of art, engaging in a practice that confronts his inner self.
The name “Hana” is derived from his beloved late cat, embodying a tribute to her strength and unwavering spirit throughout her life. He currently continues his creative practice while living with six cats.
In December 2024, his works achieved high-value sales at a Phillips auction, earning significant recognition both in Japan and internationally. Through award-winning entries in open exhibitions and an expanding exhibition history, he continues to establish a strong presence in the contemporary art scene.
