Nine Lives

「杉の木を特殊な手法により銀に塗り上げたこの作品は、英語のことわざ [ A cat has nine lives / 猫に九生あり ] に由来し、[ 猫はしぶとく何度でも生き返る ] という意味をそこに込めました。つまりはことわざの通り、たとえ予期もしない困難な状況に遭遇したとしても、決して諦める事なく、猫の様に鋭い五感を駆使し、柔軟で自由な発想と共にその状況を乗り越えんとするポジティブで強靭な精神の象徴を猫に見立てた9本の銀色の杉の木に込めました。」－クワイ華

“This work, in which cedar wood is coated in silver with a special technique, is inspired by the English proverb ‘A cat has nine lives.’
I wished to express the idea that a cat, no matter how many times it faces danger, persists and comes back again.

Just as the proverb suggests, even when we encounter unexpected difficulties, we must never give up.
I see the cat’s sharp senses, its flexibility, and its free-spirited way of navigating the world as a symbol of a strong and positive spirit.
I have embodied that spirit in the nine silver cedar forms.” — Kuwai Hana

Materials and Production Process:
Cedar wood coated with a specialized nano-silver paint. Each circular base is custom-made from iron plates and finished with the same nano-silver coating.
