This work is a piece from the MANDALA series, inspired by the dignified presence of guardian lion-dogs (komainu) at Shinto shrines. Its F10 size (530 × 455 mm) offers a serene presence that enhances calm spaces while remaining compact enough for easy portability.
A distinctive feature of this piece is the three wooden inserts embedded within the canvas. Each piece of wood is coated with silver paint applied to reveal the natural grain, subtly shimmering depending on the angle of light. This technique exemplifies Kuwai Hana’s exceptional craftsmanship and meticulous attention to material.
