Set against a deep, lustrous black ground, this work is distinguished by its linear expressions of purple and the quietly radiant spiral symbols rendered with rare 24-karat gold special coating. The purple lines emerge through the careful carving of multiple layers of paint, revealing a surface that subtly changes its appearance depending on the angle of light and the viewer’s distance.
The spiral symbols placed above and below are inspired by Komainu, traditional guardian figures in Japan. By employing a 24-karat gold special coating, the symbolism is preserved while being elevated into a presence of refined dignity. The golden glow, drawn out through the advanced coating techniques of Kuwai Hana, is not ostentatious but instead leaves a rich, weighty impression within the space.
